Over the weekend I tried out something I've been seeing a lot online lately: metallic patterns drawn on ceramics, using permanent Sharpie markers. Google it and you'll see what I mean…
The first thing you need to know is that you have to use oil-based pens, not just the regular metallic ones (they are clearly marked as such). Then basically you just draw your design, and cook it in the oven at 175C for thirty minutes.
The results: visually pleasing and seemingly permanent (so far…), but not quite as glossy and metallic as I'd hoped. I suppose only actual glaze can do that. That'll be my next experiment!
