{ Inspired By }
Moving house is hardly much fun, but the little treasures you find along the way take you down memory lane. Stumbling upon a plastic bag I rediscovered my old swaps. For those of you who have no idea what they are, or why you would collect them (I am now clearly showing my age) they were pre-sticker days. I was a devout collector of swaps and would trade amongst other 5 year old collectors, with the aim of building up a series on a special subject.
My 5 year old son has recently been collecting 'minis' from the supermarket. I have been in two minds about it – as who wants to turn down a free toy, but the designer in me is fully aware of marketing tactics and brand awareness, so I have been reluctant to take on such consumerisms.
After finding my old swaps and laying out the entire collection, I have now been re-romanced by their subjects and painting style. I can't honestly say the same about the 'minis', free or not.
