Mixing Old and New

I spent a bit of time in Dunedin last week setting up our lovely new Citta Design store.  Walking to work the first morning I spied what looked like an interesting espresso bar just off the main street.  It turned out to be better than I expected.  The people behind Diesoline have got it just right; delicious coffee and a skilled barista to make it for you (I swear it tasted like chocolate!), an open fireplace (it really is quite cold down there!) and an award winning renovation of a historic building.  It got me thinking about other historical buildings with modern or contemporary architectural renovations.  The contrast of the very old, almost soft and crumbling with the very industrial and contemporary, cold and sharp is so appealing.  Here are a few of my favourites, and if your are visiting Dunedin (apart from visiting our Citta Design store) make sure you call in for a shot of coffee at Diesoline, they even let you BYO food.
