{ Colour of the Week }

Cobalt & White is the ultimate Greek colour combination. No Greek collection would be complete without it. It reminds us of scorching summer days spent swimming in the sea, or lounging at the pool side.

Socks and sandals were always a fashion no-no but today we’re seeing a host of fashionistas donning their colourful ankle socks and high heels. I recently stumbled upon a family owned, Welsh manufacturer called Corgi, who specialise in making the finest cotton and cashmere coloured socks – by Royal Appointment to Charles, Prince of Whales. It was their charming photographs and colourful designs that really caught my eye.

The company have recently launched a new collection of socks called the Regimental Collection, which includes nine designs that draw on the stripes and patterns from the Regiments and Battalions of which Prince Charles is Colonel or Colonel-in-Chief Prince.

I love the beautiful photographs of their products that reflect the heritage of the brand (it’s been making socks in Wales since 1892) and their commitment to making superior quality items. The brand embraces its history but in a modern, eccentric way that’s really endearing.

{ DESIGN POST }

After seeing The Great Gatsby at the movies a while back, I was really excited to find these beautifully redesigned Fitzgerald books. Easily my new favourite book cover designer, Coralie Bickford-Smith creates intricate yet minimalist patterns that breathe new life into some of Penguin's greatest classics. The copper, silver and gold foiling makes these even more obsessive and I can't wait to add more to my collection! I have 3 of them so far...

She also collaborates with Samantha Johnson to create hand printed screenprints featuring quotes from literature.
You can view and purchase their prints here.

...these embroidered houses by Stephanie K. Clark
I shared this find with the rest of the Citta design team and as they clicked the link I heard exclamations of 'Wow! This is amazing!" resounding through the office.

'I consider myself a painter and I paint with thread. The process of transforming string into art struck me as something visually stimulating with complex simplicity. Painting with thread is my way down the rabbit hole, my looking glass if you will. My background in painting has allowed me to explore the material using techniques that derive more from the worlds of drawing and painting, engaging both traditional and innovative techniques in employing formal qualities with density, texture and pattern. The embroidery floss is my palette and the needle is my paintbrush...'

Boysenberry is an unusually beautiful colour. Neither pink, red nor purple it sits in its own little corner of the world looking as delicious as its name sounds.

Food.
We have just finished our annual 'International Shared Lunch' at Citta Design head office, which means we've had food (and eating) on our minds all morning.
Although there was a lot of delicious food, there was nothing as colourful as these Pantone coloured macarons. Don't they look divine?

I'm in a silly frame of mind... Yet I need to be productive, so the first thing that comes to mind is to head to Bloc and find Fletch... a rather spunky Fox I have to say with his more dorky side kick Manuel, hiding out by my favourite towels... loving the olive yellow.

{ DESIGN POST ]

Hello and welcome to my first THAT’S NEAT blog.

I’ve always loved kids stuff – from clothes to toys to furniture to parties. They get to have so much more fun than we do!

Like these little garments that I just bought for my daughter Rose from Cotton On Kids – why don’t they make these in big sizes?!! The colour combinations are delicious, and I love the gold metallic detailing.  Those gold-flecked tracksuit pants are super cool...

The colour Mint has many faces - it is fresh and youthful, romantic yet edgy, and has a great retro vibe.

Everyday objects become extraordinary.

Danish studio PutPut, based in Copenhagen, is an interdisciplinary Swiss/Danish artist duo established in 2011. Operating at the intersection where conceptual photography, styling, art and design meet, I’ve been amused and mesmerised by their styling and photography which turns mundane household objects into something fun, beautiful and extraordinary.

The objects are so carefully assembled that they can really trick the mind… There is an uncomfortable feeling that comes from looking at a kitchen sponge that genuinely looks appetising or a plant made out of spaghetti servers that is beautiful! The fun they have with objects is very inspiring!
