Patterns

We're in the middle of winter, our Tokyo range is in the shops and selling well (yay!) and our summer collection is almost ready to be released.
On top of all of this, we are busy designing our winter 2013 collection. Here is a peek at some patterns I have been working on. Next years winter collection is really starting to take shape and we are excited about how it is coming along.

SPOTTED!

The other day I was on the train and an umbrella fell by my feet. It was the brightly coloured geometric one from our winter collection, Tokyo: Collision of Contrasts. For a moment I was in utter confusion thinking "but I didn't bring my umbrella today..." until I realised that it wasn't mine but belonged to the woman sitting next to me! Then yesterday I spotted the same umbrella on the beautiful and inspirational Hands On blog by my friend Lucy Patterson.

It's always a delight to see things you've designed, out of the context of work and in other people's living, breathing lives. I really love seeing other people taking something I have designed and making it their own.

MEET LOUIS..

Remember Louis the French Bulldog??  A few months ago we told you about the winner of the Paw Justice calendar competition and how Imogen, our senior designer, was designing a cuddly toy in his likeness to be their official mascot.  Well, he's finally here!  Soooo cute!  Citta Design will be donating $5 to Paw Justice for every Louis sold and he will be available in Citta Design stores and selected Citta Design retailers starting next week as well as on-line through Paw Justice, we'll keep you up to date with where you can buy.  In the mean time here's a sneak preview..

My house!

Hello, this is Emma here! I'm one of the designers at Citta Design and that's ME in the pictures above. This is my house (well, my old house as we've just sold it) which is featured in the latest Your Home & Garden / July issue. They've done a feature on the renovation that we did a few years ago.  Photographer Kelley Eady Loveridge did a lovely job (as always) of the photos and we had loads of fun throwing in a few pieces from the latest Citta Design collection - Tokyo, Collision of Contrasts.

We're currently looking for another house to work our magic on. When we do perhaps I'll keep you all posted on the progress. Who doesn't LOVE before & after photos after all? I do!

Happy Friday everyone.

Hello!

I’m Jess, the new designer here at Citta Design. I’m very excited to be working in this very creative, fun little studio. My first day here was spent at a photo shoot for our new Summer Collection, which wasn’t a bad first day! Being a graphic designer, I’ll be working mostly on promotional material such as advertising and branding.

At the moment I’m spending a bit of time on our Citta Design Pinterest page, busy pinning products from our current Winter Collection, Tokyo. You can check it out here.
There’s also some inspiration boards on our Pinterest page that reflect our upcoming themes and collections. Pinterest is such an amazing visual tool, full of beautiful things and is very addictive! So feel free to follow us and share the love.

Flux

Our Flux design promotional bags for summer 2012/13 are at the printers.

Storyboarding

I thought you might like a peek at the storyboard we have created for our upcoming summer 2012/13 range.
We create boards like this every season to give us an overall vision of how our collection is coming together - it highlights any gaps we have, and draws attention to product which sits out on a limb. At its height, the storyboard can stretch across a third of a wall, as we add to and remove product. The storyboard is a constantly evolving entity and only comes down once the catalogue for the collection goes to print.

Typographic matchmaking

This 'font meets font and falls in love' project is so clever.

'Remember that scene from Fiddler on the Roof when Tevye’s daughters long for the matchmaker to “Find me a find, catch me a catch”? Well, matching contrasting typefaces is almost as difficult as finding that special someone. When it works it seems effortless, like the two were meant for each other. Jim Godfrey created the Typographic Matchmaking poster out of a desire to share with others some type combinations that work well together. To make it interesting, he thought it would be fun to highlight famous combinations from history, literature and life such as Romeo and Juliet, Sonny & Cher, Jack and Jill and even peanut butter and jelly.'

Made by hand

I watched this inspiring video a number of months ago and was reminded of it in the weekend talking about people finding their real passions in life. If you have a spare ten minutes it is definitely worth watching. This guy started out in New York as a writer and discovered a passion for the craft of knife making. Beautifully shot too.

Little Linford & Christie

I don't think I ever shared this article about orphaned baby owls Linford and Christie.
Aren't they just the cutest things?
