Book surgery

I have seen a few artists use old books as a medium for their artwork, but it has been a while since I have seen them transformed into something this amazing.
For more images, click here, and if you have time, read through the comments. Some people are really up in arms about 'destroying' old books and turning them into artwork. What do you think?

Never Let Me Go

I don't know about you but I am not ready to let go of summer! With the crazy erratic weather we've had so far, I've managed to grab only a few precious days at the beach and I'm hankering for more!

I thought today I'd do a post about our yummy beach towels, a new discovery for me this being my first summer here at Citta Design. They're 100% cotton and so substantial and soft and pretty, with one side smooth velour and the other traditional terry - and they're plenty big enough for lounging on the sand. In my savoured forays to the beach lately I've really enjoyed using my beautiful Isla beach towel (designed by Imogen). Here are some designs from our Viva Cuba! summer 2011-12 collection. To check availability, contact our Citta Design retail stores or stockists...

SILVER LINING

A few minutes ago there was the HUGEST clap of thunder and I was reminded of a post I've been waiting to do, on our fab new designed umbrellas, coming soon with our winter collection Tokyo: Collision of Contrasts. Though I dread winter every year, perhaps there is a silver lining to this cloud: I'll get to bust out my new umbrella (or two)! Now it's just a matter of deciding which one I will get...

For the full range of styles available, visit our website around mid March. You can also get a sneak-peak of what's instore for winter here.

JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINTS

We're super excited about the imminent arrival in stores of our winter collection, TOKYO, Collision of Contrasts. I totally loved researching and brainstorming for this collection, so I thought I'd share one of my inspirations: Japanese woodblock prints. These prints are such a fest of inspiration, with delicate lines, harmonious shapes, and often feature detailed textile prints on clothing or fabric within the images. The colours are often extremely specific and surprising. I have been drawing inspiration from them for years so it was wonderful to have the chance to come back to them again for this collection.

Here are some examples from the famous shin-hanga artists Hashiguchi Goyo (1880-1921) and Kawase Hasui (1883-1957)...

Live the language - Barcelona

The Citta designers are working on the Summer 2012 Collection based on a personal favourite city, Barcelona. The vibrant city I think has it all; the warm sun, sandy beaches, tapas, and a great nightlife. I found this video last year and think it captures the excitement and care-free beauty of the city. I really love the typography in the stills. Enjoy!

Japanese beverages (thanks to Asahi for supplying the beer!), Bian Sushi, our very own Harajuku girl (CJ from our Purchasing & Logistics team), mile high platforms & an outfit which matched our colour palette perfectly marked the launch of our Winter 2012 collection - Tokyo. Spotted!

On the cover of the latest Dish magazine - the Manyana breakfast plate, with some delicious looking Mango Lassi popsicles.

Mango Lassi Popsicles

1 - 2 ripe mangoes (you need 1 1/2 cups of mango puree)
3/4 cup thick plain yoghurt
1/4 cup sour cream
1/3 cup icing sugar, sifted
Finely grated zest of 1 lime
A pinch of ground cardamom
Assorted popsicle sticks
Popsicle moulds or glasses

1. Peel & roughly chop the mango flesh. Place in a food processor & blend until smooth.
2. Pour puree into a large bowl & whisk in the remaining ingredients until smooth.
3. Pour into popsicle moulds or glasses & gently tap on the bench to remove any air bubbles. Cover each one tightly with a square of tin foil, and insert the popsicle sticks through the foil (the foil keeps the sticks upright in the centre of the glass). Freeze until frozen - approximately 6 hours.

To serve: Remove the foil. Quickly dip the popsicles into a bowl of warm water & remove from moulds.
