Globetrotters

Perhaps we could put together a Citta Design version of this destination print by Penny Farthing Design House, of all the places we have drawn inspiration from for our seasonal ranges.
Our cities would include (plus a few thrown in for good measure) :

Tokyo
Havana
New York
Mexico City
Mumbai
Barcelona
Capri
London
Auckland
Melbourne

Which interesting cities/places around the world would you add?

never have a bad day ever again

Last weekend I discovered the loveliest little book shop in Matakana Village, not surprisingly called 'The Village Bookshop'. You can tell the owner LOVES books - the places oozes charm and style! It was difficult to get inside the store for the crowds of people, and once in I felt myself getting caught up in the excitement of finding some sort of treasure.

I found a gorgeous little book to buy for my friend - called 'never have a bad day ever again'. I don't think it would have mattered what was inside, I loved the bright, bright pink printed edges, linen cover and silver foil text. Beautiful!

The content though made me laugh. It was full of nearly a hundred of those little things, the daily pleasures that make us happy.

I wanted to share with you a few of my favourites:
Saying 'oof' as you slump into a chair
Writing a love letter to yourself
Winning an argument in your head
Finding a ripe avocado
Fondling your own buttocks
A good stretch
Peeing after holding it in
Making an old person happy by just saying hello
Thinking about someone fancying you
Fancying yourself
...and the list goes on.

However, I think they missed one...
Finding a gift for a friend and keeping it for yourself

Which is exactly what I did!

Mixing Old and New

I spent a bit of time in Dunedin last week setting up our lovely new Citta Design store.  Walking to work the first morning I spied what looked like an interesting espresso bar just off the main street.  It turned out to be better than I expected.  The people behind Diesoline have got it just right; delicious coffee and a skilled barista to make it for you (I swear it tasted like chocolate!), an open fireplace (it really is quite cold down there!) and an award winning renovation of a historic building.  It got me thinking about other historical buildings with modern or contemporary architectural renovations.  The contrast of the very old, almost soft and crumbling with the very industrial and contemporary, cold and sharp is so appealing.  Here are a few of my favourites, and if your are visiting Dunedin (apart from visiting our Citta Design store) make sure you call in for a shot of coffee at Diesoline, they even let you BYO food.

Sitting down to Dinner

I set the table for dinner last night, and realized that my table setting was extremely boring – no placemats, no interesting napkins, plates or cutlery, I didn’t even have flowers! Working for a homeware company I really don’t have any excuse!
So, Ive put together a collection of my ideal pieces for dinner at home – from Citta Design and beyond. Ive included some lovely classic pieces, which can be interspersed with pop of colour & quirky/fun items to dressed the table up or down depending on your mood.

1. Cheese Board from Citta Design
2. Number Placemat from Little Factory
3. Soho & gold Eye Spy Plates from Citta Design
4. IVV Chianti Wine Glass from Citta Design
5. Timo Water Glass from Design House Stockholm
6. Collect Paper Napkin from Citta Design
7. Glass Jug from Citta Design
8. Washed Linen Napkin from Citta Design
9. Superior Servers from Ladies & Gentlemen Studio
10. Pick Up Chopstick from Design House Stockholm

New Store!!

Arthur Barnett, Meridan Mall, 285 George St, Dunedin.

Rainbow Bright

M

y cute niece Sienna is about to turn 5 (see Sienna below with the Picado Raschel Blanket from our Mexico season, still available in store), which is freaking me out and making me feel old. She was allowed to pick the theme for her birthday party, and surprisingly she didn't ask for a pink princess party, she wanted a Rainbow party! I am lucky enough to receive an invitation to the important occasion - looking forward to the fairy bread & cupcakes already! So, thank you Sienna for today's inspiration, love Auntie Teresa.

P.S: Do you like my fancy 'M'? That's thanks to Jessica Hische and her daily drop cap, check it out for more typographic deliciousness

Limited Edition Frocks & Citta Design

It's dress week at Moochi.
If you spend up large you get a goodie bag which includes some of our favourite Citta Design products. Not that we're biased or anything.... :)

Splashy Colour

Maybe it’s the onset of dreary winter, but lately I am feeling inspired by vivid, splashy, abstract colours, like the painted walls in the background of this Cuban scene, and these cute painted leggings by PAM – not to mention those shoes…

The perfect companion!

Im not sure what the weather is doing around the rest of the country, but Auckland city has been hit by torrential rain, brilliant sunshine and strong wind gusts. It is a classic Auckland ‘four seasons in one day’ thursday.
Brand new to Citta Design are these brightly coloured umbrellas – the perfect companion for a day like today. I have my eyes on the bright green number :)

An Indian escape

Here in our design room we are all rugged up - boots and scarves, a few of us with the sniffles and can hear the wind howling around the building. Brrrrrr!

What a perfect time to daydream about a land that feels so so far away...

A few years ago I was fortunate enough to travel around India with my partner. We traveled a huge distance from Delhi in the North down the west coast to the southern most tip and back up the east through the Coromandel Coast - yes they have one too!

I'll always remember India as a place of extremes - dirty and extraordinarily beautiful, serene and freakishly chaotic, dusty landscapes, hazy skies and the colour! So much colour!

I admired the way that people embraced colour so naturally, with what seemed no effort and almost accidental.

Pretty cool...

I recently came across an amazing Italian graffiti / animation artist who goes by the name of Blu.

His art is fantastic but it was his animation Muto (Mute or Silent) that caught my attention (and maybe yours already too as 9 million people have viewed it on You Tube!!)

He created Muto whilst living in Buenos Aires in 2007 over the period of around 8 or 9 months.

Muto is created from of hundreds of paintings done on walls around the streets of Buenos Aires. Frame by frame it creates an animated mural over 7 minutes long. It's long, but worth a look!

I have also attached a couple of photos of his graffiti art – pretty cool stuff!

In touch with nature

I love this trend of blurring the line between indoors with out, through the use of plants. The interior becomes a tranquil, inviting space, somewhere to escape the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives.
